Hello, my name is Juel. Nope. Not Jewel. That is a beautiful name, but it is not mine. My name is Juel. 2 distinct syllables. Long U sound. Second syllable EL. Like Spanish. Ju-EL. You can do it.
This is the woman I am named after. She delivered my younger brother and me.

So who am I anyway? Well I am a white female, born and raised in a Mennonite home in Atlanta, GA. We lived in a black neighborhood and my home congregation was racially diverse. My brother and I were the only white children in our school. Here is a picture of my kindergarten class.
I grew up, went to college, dropped out of college, went to Indonesia with Mennonite Central Committee, went back to college, got kicked out, went to another college and graduated (yeah!) lived for a year at Jubilee Partners, went to seminary, graduated (another yeah!) moved to Oregon where I have lived since 1997, got married at the age of 36 becoming instant stepmom of 4 and grandmother of 4 (which has grown to 10!), lost my husband to prostate cancer after 2 years and 6 months of marriage.... is that enough for a lifetime?
I love life, my family and friends, my church. I am a Spiritual Director who loves leading retreats. I have moderated an online support group for women who have a loved one with prostate cancer. I am ordained in Mennonite Church USA, Pacific Northwest Conference for Spiritual Direction.
