Spiritual Direction

peaceonyourjourney@gmail.com

Are you:
  • looking for the Sacred in the midst of every day life?
  • longing to grow closer to the Holy One?
  • seeking someone to walk with you on your spiritual journey?
  • in a time of spiritual desert?

A Spiritual Director can:
  • provide safe space for you to explore, question, reflect on and share your sacred story confidentially.
  • invite you into a deeper relationship with the spiritual aspect of being human.
  • join you in dialogue, contemplation, prayer and sacred listening.

What will it look like?

Together you and I will meet and listen for the where, how, what, and whys of God in your life. I do not have the answers, I will bring lots of questions.

I live in Salem, OR and am available evenings and weekends to meet at the Broadway Coffeehouse's Upper Room. I am able to drive north to Portland, and south to Albany.  I am also available to meet via Skype. Email me at peaceonyourjourney@gmail.com or call 503-877-5758 for more information.

Fees: Our first meeting will be free so we can discuss expectations and schedule. We will work out a fee that works for you. Please do not let cost keep you from contacting me.

FAQ:

What is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual Direction is the simple gift of offering to another the gentle and caring encouragement to open fully to God’s loving presence, and to discern the action of the Spirit in every aspect of life. This encouragement comes from a “spiritual director,” a person who has long and deep experience in living a spiritual life.

Will a spiritual director tell me what to do?

No. Spiritual direction is not a means of control. Although the title “spiritual direction” has sometimes been misused, the real task of spiritual direction is not to tell another person what to do or how to be spiritual. Your journey of faith is uniquely your own. It is the responsibility of the director to discern together with you the movement of God’s Spirit in your life and to assist you in following that movement.

What typically happens in a direction session?

Normally, each session is an hour to an hour and a half conversation. It generally begins with a time of quiet centering, followed by a time for you to share whatever seems important. Then there is interaction between you and the director as you seek together to discern the intimations and invitations of the Spirit’s presence in what you’ve been experiencing. The session ends with a brief time of closure.

How often would I meet with my director?

That really depends on you. Once a month is a common pattern, although more often, especially at the beginning, may be helpful. Some people contact their directors only when they are ready. The frequency will be determined by your needs at the time.
